FOOTWEAR

Not another super shoe.
The next kind.

Foam changed running. Carbon changed it again. The next leap is superelastic, and it’s taking shape in our lab right now.

ZONE

Adaptive Propulsion midsole

Superelastic elements engineered into TPU, PEBA or CMEVA foam: big rebound, softer landings. Tunable from soft to firm — one platform for daily trainers and race-day shoes.

Always on. It flexes under load and snaps back the instant you lift off.

PROBLEMS WORTH SOLVING

The super shoe changed racing.
It also left a list.

Runners, reviewers and researchers keep raising the same issues with today’s flagships. Here’s where Nitiwear is aiming — and how far along each answer is.

WHAT’S A SUPER SHOE? Today’s top racing shoe: a thick, springy foam midsole with a stiff carbon-fiber plate inside. Since 2017 these shoes have rewritten marathon records — and set the template for premium running shoes. They’re fast, but they come with trade-offs.

SUPER SHOE VS. OUR APPROACH

Six trade-offs in today’s super shoes, and what Nitiwear is designing for. Tap + to see each.

01 The magic fades Designed for

THE PROBLEM

Race shoes are often retired after a few hundred miles. In one study, PEBA super shoes lost 2.28% running economy after 450 km.

NITIWEAR · DESIGNED FOR

A spring built to last. Superelastic elements engineered to keep their response as the foam around them ages.

02 Race day only Designed for

THE PROBLEM

Plated shoes pay off mainly near race pace. Coaches advise saving them for races and key sessions.

NITIWEAR · DESIGNED FOR

Adaptive flex at every pace. One platform that can span the daily trainer and the race-day shoe.

03 A rigid lever Early evidence

THE PROBLEM

Research links carbon-plated shoes to more rearfoot eversion and lower cadence, and open questions remain about midfoot bone stress.

NITIWEAR · EARLY EVIDENCE

Flexes with the foot instead of forcing a fixed lever. Early component tests showed 34% lower peak force than foam alone; full-shoe biomechanics testing comes next.

04 Stack has hit its limit In development

THE PROBLEM

Comfort has come from piling on foam. Rules now cap road soles at 40 mm, and taller stacks add weight and can make the stride less stable.

NITIWEAR · IN DEVELOPMENT

Less stack. Same feel. NiTi is designed to deliver the cushioning and return of a tall stack in a lower, more planted profile.

05 $250–$500 a pair Designed for

THE PROBLEM

Flagship racers cost more than ever — and some reviewers report pairs “basically done” in a few dozen kilometers.

NITIWEAR · DESIGNED FOR

Value per mile. A premium price that’s earned by a ride that lasts — the kind of value that builds loyalty, not churn.

06 Built to be thrown away Designed for

THE PROBLEM

The world made about 23.9 billion pairs of shoes in 2024. Around 95% of used footwear ends up in landfill or incineration.

NITIWEAR · DESIGNED FOR

Fewer pairs, less waste. Longevity first: the most sustainable shoe is the one you don’t have to replace.

An enhancement, not a replacement. NiTi is designed to work with the foams and geometries great shoes already use — making a strong platform last longer and respond better.

ANATOMY OF A NITIWEAR SHOE

Engineered
from the inside out.

Most shoes are designed outside-in: shape first, technology tucked underneath. Ours starts at the core — and every layer is built to work with it.

HOW NITI COMPARES · 2026 FLAGSHIP RACERS

Foam cushions. Carbon stiffens.
NiTi responds.

Every flagship racer pairs a high-rebound foam with a rigid carbon element. Nitiwear keeps the foam — and trades fixed stiffness for a structure that adapts to the runner.

EARLY RESULTS

Energy return

Top 2026 super-shoe midsoles measure up to about 80% in independent full-shoe lab testing. Early NiTi components measured 78–88% in Heeluxe component testing — and adding SMA lifted a PEBA sample from 85% to 88%.

NEXT STEP

Full-shoe proof

Today’s flagships are race-proven. Ours is in the lab and moving fast, with full-shoe and athlete trials next. What comes after carbon is still up for grabs.

Energy-return comparison: about 80% ceiling per RunRepeat full-shoe lab testing; NiTi figures are company-reported component results from Heeluxe ASTM F1976-based impact testing (2025). Test methods differ, so figures are indicative, not head-to-head.
